Candle on the Communion Table
Two candles now burn on the Table, one lit by Chris Kelly-Watts marking his departure overseas on 25th November, 2006 with the ADF and the other lit on April 1st, 2007 by Keni Nuamanatua on behalf of his family, marking the departure of Tanou to overseas service. As his lighting of the candles burn in their memories may the boys constantly know that they are in ours. As they burn in our presence may they remind us to continually pray for Greig and all his family, Rachel and Nigel and their family until the boys safely return to extinguish their candle.

Prayer
  • In order to be “pre-prayered” for the service, there is a time of prayer at 9-30 in the front vestry: you are all welcome.
  • Cards are in the narthex if you would like a prayer included in the Prayers of the People. On one side is an entry for a prayer request, the reverse side is an place for you to give a “Praise Report”, that is, if you have had answer to prayer - hearing answers is an encouragement to us all. They may be given to the Steward to bring forward at the Offering.

REQUEST FOR PRAYER
Graeme received the following email on Friday from the President of Fuller Theologivcal Seminary, Richard Mouw and which has been addressed to all students attached to Fuller Theological Seminary in the US. In part it reads: “As we mourn the shocking loss of life at Virginia Tech its not hard to ask questions about the senselessness of this tragedy . . .. As a community of faith we also join in the earnest prayer for the people of Virginia Tech as they grapple with the darkness of their suffering.... As Christian believers, we know there are things in this earthly life beyond our ability to comprehend. But there is also something we know that we can do, and that is to come before the throne of the living God with our cries and petitions. Let us now unite as a seminary community in upholding in prayer the parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, friends and collegues of those precious lives that were lost in Virginia this week.

PRAYER POINTS: Caring and Sharing with one another
Pray for:

  • the defence force Chaplaincy which operates in the presbytery with UC Minister Rev Christine Senini, based at HMAS Cerberus.

  • Rev Lauleti and his family following their eldest child John (Sione) death last Sunday afternoo and the funeral service yesterday at Endeavour Hills and afternoon tea at Dandenong North.

  • for those who are awaiting surgery - that they will experience peace from their pain and discomfort and the fruit of patience in their waiting, particularly when there are postponements

  • that God will look upon the parched ground, of both the land and our lives and give the gift of rain to refresh, renew and restore.

  • the Anglican Church as it deals with the tragedy at Broughton Hall in Camberwell - pray for the CEO, staff, residents, and families, not just of those who have died, or are sick but all as the enormity of the tragedy unfolds. As we pray for them, pray also for

  • all children who have to make decisions about the care of elderly parents and ...

  • for UnitingAged Care who also are responsible for the governance and management of many Nursing Home and Aged Care residential facilities in Victoria and Tasmania, and ...

  • particularly praying closer to home for those at Trewint the staff and volunteers, residents and families, for Elwyn Pedersen who is the chaplain, for Elizabeth and the other staff and volunteers of our Scott Club which is under the management of Trewint.

Could your Church be part of Simply Sharing Week?- The United Nations estimates that over 115 million young people areound the world are denied basic education. Achieving universal primary education is one of 8 Millenium Development Goals that Australia and 190 other countries aim to achieve by 2015. Our Congregation can help provide education for young people globally. As a church could we take part in Simply Sharing Week? It’s a decision to live simply for one week. The money usually spent on luxury items that week is then donated to the Victorian Council of Churches for a practical overseas education project. The suggested dates for Simply Sharing Week are 17-24 June, but we can choose another week if we like. All the resourcves churches need to take part can be found at www.simplysharingweek.org.au or phone Kaylea Fearn from the VCC on 9650 6811

Our offerings help fund this ministry as does including the Church in your Will, investing some money in UC Funds Management etc. Phone 9251 5405 or visit http:/victas.uca.org/mission for more details

Thank you.
