Candle on the Communion Table
Chris Kelly-Watts lit a candle to mark his departure on 25th November with the ADF to Iraq. As his lighting of the candle burns in his memory may he constantly know that he is in ours. As it burns in our presence may it remind us to continually pray for him, for Greig and all his family until he safely returns to extinguish it

Prayer
  • In order to be “pre-prayered” for the service, there is a time of prayer at 9-30 in the front vestry: you are all welcome.
  • Cards are in the narthex if you would like a prayer included in the Prayers of the People. On one side is an entry for a prayer request, the reverse side is an place for you to give a “Praise Report”, that is, if you have had answer to prayer - hearing answers is an encouragement to us all. They may be given to the Steward to bring forward at the Offering.

NUMURKAH
We need to start thinking about our Parish in Partnership visit for Nurmurkah’s visit to us later in the year. There is a Suggestion Box in the Narthex if you would like to put in any suggestions as to what this year’s program may entail. The visit is being planned for the end of September

PRAYER POINTS: Caring and Sharing with one another
Pray for:

  • St Mark’s Mornington, and its minister Rev. David Peel

  • Rev Lauleti and his family as John is still in intensive care - but is waiting for a bed in a ward.

  • those who have undergone surgery in the last week offering thanks for the wisdom of doctors, the care of nurses and the support of loved ones. Pray also for those who are awaiting surgery - that they will experience peace from their pain and discomfort and the fruit of patience in their waiting, particularly when there are postponements.

  • that God will look upon the parched ground, of both the land and our lives and give the gift of rain to refresh, renew and restore.

The Cross is the central symbol of the Christian faith -
in 6 hours there was:
darkness - God hates sin so he turned his back on his Son
a cry - Jesus was abandoned by his father
a torn curtain in the temple - from top to bottom - God was not going to be kept at arms length confinerd to the temple - God reached out to humanity because our sins had been dealt with
a ransom - all freedom comes at a cost - we could never afford it - Jesus paid it for us.

Thinking about volunteering overseas? - The Uniting Church has partnerships with 35 different churches from countries in the Asia-Pacific and African regions. Exciting and challenging opportunities are available for you to take part in practical mission projects run by these partner churches - for anything from a few weeks to a couple of years. Matt, a 22y.o. from Melbourne is a Volunteer in Mission in Jaffna, Sri Lanka. “I teach conversational English to children from poor backgrounds, and work in the Theological Seminary. It’s a thrill for the children, and some older people, to put their English into practice.” Or if you have experience as a tradesperson, 3 week re-building projects are available in places like Salamo in the Papuan Islands region of PNG. For more information on the U.C.’s People in Mission projects, contact Sandy Boyce on (08) 8236 4240 or email sandy@sa.uca.org.au or visit http://uim.uca.org.au/peoplein mission/
Our offerings help fund this ministry as does including the Church in your Will, investing some money in UC Funds Management etc. Phone 9251 5405 or visit http:/victas.uca.org/mission for more details

Thank you.
